Scabbard Manufacturer: Refinished Model: M1905E1 (Shortened) >--> Condition: Very Good - Very Good Plus Blade Length: 6.50" TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWII M1 Garand self loading rifle and M1903 bolt action rifle M1905E1 (Cut-Down) fighting combat knife bayonet. This also comes with an M8A1 VP Co. scabbard. Original M1905 bayonets were made with a 16" blade during WWI. Strategies changed when the WWII rolled around and military advisors required M1905 bayonets to be shortened to 10". When the war began, M1905 bayonets were cut down to the required 10", but as production ramped up, the M1905E1 (cut-down version) was produced at the required 10" and then designated the M1 bayonet. Interestingly, this one was cut down even more to a length of 6.5". This is a utility fighting knife but still functional as a bayonet. The scabbard has both a canvas belt hoop and a belt hook hanger. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age. It has been cut-down. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have handling marks and scuffs, plus their finish has been parkerized. The escutcheon screw securely fastens the two (2) grip panels. It has a slightly worn tool marked slot. The serrated grips have compressions, drag lines and a couple smooth areas, but no chips or cracks. The spine, sides and fullers have light handling marks and scuffs, but no notable wear. It has been cut down from its original length. The blade appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The finish has been parkerized and is mostly intact with a couple areas of superficial oxidation and wear. There are no visible markings. It was refinished and covered. The plastic scabbard is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition. The belt hook hanger is securely attached, rotates freely and has its original configuration. It has some light discoloration. The canvas frog loop is functional, has no rips or tears and the stitching is sewn tightly. There is some scattered grit. It is securely attached to the locket with rivets that have light oxidation. The locket and chape have light scrapes and oxidation. The plastic body has light handling marks and scrapes. It has been painted and some of the paint still remains. The scabbard is marked "USM8A1 / VP Co.". The back of the canvas frog is marked "33". This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your M1 Garand rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
