Description: STK: #SWORD-GAPBrought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWI US Infantry / Cavalry N.S. Meyer - Colonial Made M1902 Dress Saber Sword & Scabbard Manufacturer: N.S. Meyer - Colonial Made Model: M1902 Blade Length: 31.75" Serial #: N/A TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI era US M1902 dress saber sword and scabbard. During the American Civil War and Indian War era, US military strategies changed and the swords were thought to be obsolete. This lead to the M1860 and M1872 models which were more for ceremonial purposes. Officers did not like the idea of carrying a ceremonial weapon into combat. The 1902 pattern sword was the compromise. It was light and efficient and could still be effective in combat. The M1902 is still in service today as a ceremonial parade sword. Sometimes these are given to newly commissioned officers or for retirement. Overall, this sword is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age and history. The pommel, back-strap, quillon and knuckle-bow are all securely fastened to the hilt. They have scattered light oxidation and scrapes. Some of the finish has a gray patina. The Bakelite finger groove grips have light scrapes. The black finish is still intact. The blade has a light bend approximately the last 13" of the blade. The spine, sides and fullers have light handling marks and scuffs, but no notable wear. There are no nicks or dings on the blade's cutting edge and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The blade finish is in the white. The left ricasso is marked "N.S. MEYER INC. / TRADE MARK / COLONIAL / MADE IN USA". The right ricasso is marked "MU" over a 6-point Damascus Star (The star used to certify that the sword was made of Damascus steel, now it signifies that the sword is made to the standards of the uniform regulations of the military). The left side blade has floral etching and "U.S." and the right side blade has "PLURIBUS UNUM" along with the floral etching. The scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The suspension rings are securely fastened to the body, they swivel and rotates freely. Most of the finish has tarnished. The throat, body, chape and drag have light oxidation and scrapes. Most of the original finish has worn off. The sword slides in and out correctly and easily. There are no visible markings on the scabbard. This sword and scabbard will be a great addition to your US WWI collection, or a sword collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards. Please see our photographs for a better understanding of the contents and its condition. Shipping: Calculated.
