It also fits the Mauser M1943 short rifle. The Artilleria Fabrica Nacional, Toledo company made these. The Spanish army was one of the countries who had checkered wood grips on their bayonets. This bayonet was originally intended for M1895 short rifles but when Spain designed and went with the M1916 rifles they were redesigned to fit the new pattern rifles. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition. The press stud is functional with stiff spring tension. The pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have light scrapes, impact marks and a few scattered areas of very light superficial oxidation. The screw escutcheons securely fasten the two wood grip panels. The screws have fairly strong slots with some light wear and light oxidation. The checkered grips have light handling marks and scuffs, but the checkering is mostly distinct. They have started to darken with age. The spine, fullers and sides are in the white with some light gunk that should be able to be cleaned off. The blade has its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The left ricasso is partially scrubbed and missing some of the markings. The visible markings are " NACION.. / TOLEDO". The right ricasso is marked with the serial number that is hard to read, but it looks like "17045 / D". The locket and chape are both securely attached to the leather body. They both have light scrapes and some superficial oxidation. The leather has no rips or tears and the stitching is sewn tightly. The leather is pliable and some of the finish has worn off. There is a marking on the throat that is hard to read it may be "50". This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Spanish rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
