The piece exudes a holistic representative encapsulation of the essence of wine, wine bottles, wine corks, and aging over time.This piece came to be by chance. Composed of a thick piece of wood from an old family table top with a lengthy family and personal history ties to it, which was being disassembled and thrown out. Instead I chose to create something out of the spare material and have it continue it's journey, serving a new and unique purpose that is meant to last and to be savored.The table top surface has since been encrusted with hundreds of wine bottle corks; the majority having been collected over approximately two decades time.The corks were initially laid out, separated and then organized and placed impromptu as the project progressed. Each cork was selected, individually hand cut and then carefully adhered to the wood surface. The differing cork heights are correspondent to the hues of redness, and or lack thereof, redness leftover from red wines. This creates, sustains, guides and moves the observers through a systematic range of patterns and physical forms that resemble fluid like effects of movement, indicative of infinite pools of wine.There is a wide range of wine cork sizes, materials, densities, colors and just as great a variety of illustrative designs depicted on most of the corks. The smaller residual cork material scraps leftover from the cork cutting process were used in the construction as a byproduct material to fill in the voids and gaps in between corks, as well as some locations outlined around the border. Granting observers with an intriguing experiential insight into the scalar physical material characteristics of corks and bottles. As well as shedding some evident light on the scalar granularity of the chosen material derived from the integral construction/creation processes of the piece itself over time.There are three main voids in the wood where the wine bottles are placed, fitted and securely held. These truncated concavities were carefully hand carved out of the wood with a simple rotary tool and were subsequently finely and gently surfaced by hand. Additionally the voids were filled with red wine which the wood absorbed over time to achieve the beautiful natural stain finish on the wood visible when no bottles are inserted. Finally the stains needed some protection and more importantly some shine, which was enhanced by applying a thin transparent protective coat.There are many more photos and videos records of the entire design and construction process available upon request from the buyer if desired.Thank you for your browsing and considerations to adding this piece to your own personal wall decór collection.
