When we started in 2015, we needed a UAS strobe for public safety operations. We developed our first small strobe for this purpose. We added lighting modes, colors IP rated cases and fresnel lens, Since then a lot of cheap copies using low cost leds have flooded the market, claiming they meet the requirement the FAA requires. Almost all do not. With this new model once again we use the proper LED's for the mission, the new XPL2. Cree LED's are well known for their brightness and quality. In addition the type of lens on the strobe also makes a huge difference in its range. Cheap copies use cheap .5 watt LEDS to seem to be bright, they are wired in series meaning when one light goes they all do, but they are NOT focused lenses on the led or the case, so while it looks bright in your hand, it does not at range as they scatter light rather than focus it. We can use less LEDS as at 10 watts per bulb and only 3 needed, we achieve 30 total watts of power compared to the total 5 watts of the 14 dollar lights. They are low cost, but you do get what you pay for and will they do what you need at range, the entire reason you use strobe lighting.
