Description: Washington State History Train, July 9, 1996, by Jim Fredrickson. Tacoma, Washington: Washington State Historical Society, 1996. Spiral bound, 28 pages, approx. 12” x 9½”. Generously illustrated with dozens of reproduced historical photos, detailed maps, sketches, and much more. This great souvenir piece commemorates a unique train ride, a special journey done exactly this way only once, on July 9, 1996. Beginning at Vancouver, Washington, near the Columbia River, the northbound route covered 136.4 miles, terminating at the historic Union Station in downtown Tacoma. The riders were treated to a full day of scenery, stories (historical, fascinating, ribald, and otherwise), quality food and drink, and a one-of-a-kind memory. The train traveled on the rails of the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Corporation, the same used at the time by Amtrak and Union Pacific, on routes and sections pioneered by many predecessor rail companies—truly riding through (or on) the history of Western Washington State. The condition of the book is “very good” in every respect. Collecting categories: Washington State history; railroading; the history of any of the cities or towns along the route. Careful wrapping and fast shipping. Please look around the store. Lots of books & other media, quilt & cross stitch patterns, car mags & catalogs, home décor, and many more treasures-- and more listed every day.
