Description: William Ellery 18s size keywind pocket watch. The serial number is 46452. It was made in 1862 or early 1863. The movement is marked Wm Ellery Boston. This movement has the hidden balance stud. This watch was still in the original family's possession until this past week. There are two jewels missing but I was told it had not been in the hands of a watchmaker for the past 40 years. I am guessing he pressed out the cracked jewels and could not get them and returned the watch to the owner? The silveroid case is later, it has a 1884 patent date. The one piece porcelain sterile dial has an edge chip near the bottom but no cracks. Hands look original and are excellent. The balance swings but it needs a staff.
