Description: Walt Whitman ~ 3 Book Lot Note: - The 1921 book is a bit rough, tho its flaws give it a bit of character that will have your book shelves appear more intriguing. Includes a nice 9 pg introduction by Carl Sandburg. All flaws are noted in the 'Condition' section below.- The other 2 books are recently published softcovers, with "Part Three" book being an exact facsimile reprint of some later publishing's (1880-1920s approx) by Whitman and other editors. Includes "Old Age Echoes", "Backward Glance O'er Travel'd Roads", and "Variorum" which is a very detailed reference work, an annex if you will, of all the many changes made to the poem "Leaves..." by Whitman himself during the course of at least 9 reprints from 1855 thru 1881. This is the largest section, approx 170 pgs.. - The 'Review' journal is not strictly Whitman - it contains much poetry inspired by him, by current writers/poets, while also including some scholarly pieces on Whitman's prose & life. The WWBA no longer publishes this journal but does have a newsletter and runs the museum on Long Island at Whitman's birthplace/early home, along with a very interesting website too. All books are mildly wiped down and dusted clean via air duster. All are from a smoke free // pet free home. All are just dying for a new home and to be read again! a) Leaves Of Grass 1921 Edition ?? (early, tho possibly First), Hardcover Published by Modern Library ISBN noneDust Jacket none Condition: 'Good' w/ mostly cosmetic flaws.Covers and spine are scraped, as if some kind of tape was on them and then roughly pulled off. A few slight wrinkles on the front and back. Titles can still be easily read. Inside hinges are solid in the front but the back cover shows tearing of the paper to reveal the underlying fabric, and while it has torn away a bit at the very bottom it's still holding on firmly. Could use some binding repair tape tho.Interior - first title page shows some light scribbles and owners name. Otherwise, book is very clean & unmarred within. Slight hint of sun fade/tanning to the page edges but not too bad. ************************* b) Leaves of Grass ~ Part Three 2005 (?) Softcover Published by Kessinger ISBN 1419176668 Condition: Lightly read book, still in great shape. No flaws to speak of. Interior is pristine - no writing/highlighting or dog-eared pages. Note: Kessinger is a publisher of antiquarian books, with their facsimile reprints carrying no copyright/title pg., making it impossible to definitively date this edition.
