Description: A SIGNED museum exhibition booklet by noted New York theater artist and caricaturist Sam Norkin. Norkin's work appeared in many publications including Variety, Backstage, and newspapers around the country. He worked for the New York Herald Tribune and the Daily News throughout his career, having over 4000 of his illustrations published. Norkin passed away in 2011. The booklet and brochure are from the exhibit called "Theatre Drawings by Sam Norkin" held during the summer and fall of 1970 (or possibly a later year) at the Amsterdam Gallery at the Library and Museum of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center in New York City. The booklet is 64 pages, containing an introduction by newspaper editor John Chapman and a short essay by the artist, followed by 61 full page illustrations, taken from Norkin's work documenting various plays, musicals, ballets, media celebrities, circuses, etc. All illustrations are black and white. The booklet is 8.5"x5.5", and has Norkin's drawing of a circus hippo (named Dreamy, from the 1959 Barnum and Bailey tour) on the cover. The artists inscription reads: "To Carol and Bruce -- All good wishes to dear, dear friends. Sam Norkin". The booklet and brochure was found in a suburban Chicago estate sale. Also included is a brochure from the same exhibition. The inside of the brochure has the same text as is in the booklet, with a Leonard Bernstein caricature that is also in the booklet. The front of the brochure has an illustration of the sign from the exhibit on the museum building with some skyline behind. The brochure is in rough condition. Photos are of the actual objects on offer. See the photos for additional insight into content and condition of this collectible memorabilia of theatre art, signed by the prolific artist.
