Copyright date shows 1943 but the history of the publication of this book show it to be a 1963 edition. Always be wary of others on eBay claiming to sell first editions of this book, almost all are not first editions since most all have the same copyright on the copyright page. The original FIRST publishing company for a true first edition of The Little Prince was by Reynal & Hitchcock. That publisher was acquired by Harcourt, Brace & Company in 1948. The Little Prince became their best-selling book. In 1960, Harcourt, Brace & Company merged with World Book Company and changed their name to Harcourt, Brace & World. The copies of The Little Prince published by Harcourt, Brace & World all included a copyright date of 1943, but were actually published in the early 1960s. They changed their name again in 1970 to 'Harcourt, Brace & Jovanovich' after the company merged with William Jovanovich. A series of acquisitions and mergers took place during the 1970s and 80s and it was acquired by Houghton-Mifflin in 2007. All copies from 2012 to the present are published under 'Houghton Mifflin Harcourt'.This is a true vintage 1963 edition hardcover with the dust jacket showing the $7.95 pricing on the dust jacket and "Harcourt, Brace & World" publishing.
