I thought this was entirely an original painting done in a rather Mannerist style. It is clear that the gold pigment has been painted on, applied, but I think it may be a print set down on the board. Certain media might appear extremely flat and fool the eye like that... but I think this is a print where it is done so well that it fools the eye into thinking it is painted. It does have those wonderfully strange qualities that Mannerist art has! This is not a smaller icon. You don't usually find many in a larger size and this measures approximately 20 inches by 15 inches. Just a wonderful addition to your collection of icons or church/devotional art. Not to sound too paranormal, but the one photo sort of spooked me a little as the lighting there looks so strange and I don't understand why it looks like that. I never have a problem with photos with this camera like that. It's like there's a radiance around this that I cannot imagine where it came from. This icon might have some Mojo!
