Vintage Montague Sunbeam 12 Foot Cane Fishing Pole--Surf Casting? Salmon?

Description: This is a Vintage Montague, 3 Section, Tonkin Cane Sunbeam Model Fishing Rod. It is is so unusual because of its size. When put together the sections measure 12 feet long. It has four sections which are all quite straight. There are two identical extra tips, the mid section, and the handle section. The handle section has a partial decal that says Montague, has a fish, and the Letters, "SUN EA ," which we are guessing originally read, SUNBEAM. In addition to being unusual for its size, it is unusual for its near perfect condition. Bamboo laminations are solid and show no cracking, separations, or damage but there is one flaw on the handle segment that appears to be a separation in the lamination of the bamboo sections. (See Photos.) All of the line guides are made from tubular like brass and all appear to be original and intact. The ferrules all appear to be original and fit tightly. All of the line guide and ferrule wrappings appear to be original plus it was found in a cloth sleeve that we assume to be original. There are remains of a paper label on the fabric sleeve but all that is left is the word, 'Fine,' and the letters, 'BA' possibly for the word, Bamboo. So it is a bit of a mystery. Each section measures about 48.75 inches. Montage was for a number of years one of America's highest producers of cane fishing rods. They began making bamboo rods in Montague, MA, in the 1880's and ceased operations in 1955. They made a range of quality in their rods. Sunbeam Fly Rods were a middle to low end of their many models. We wish we had more information about this rod. We were unable to find any others even somewhat similar. We thought it might be of interest to someone more familiar with vintage cane rods.
