Description: This is a an authentic vintage Wittnauer Weems watch. This was given as an award to a US Navy Pilot. The pilot, David Milton Birdsall, was the 1955 recipient of the Captain Albert E. Oliver Award. I was able to find some information on then Ensign Birdsall but there is probably a wealth of history yet to be discovered. He was apparently involved in the crash of an AT-6 Texan near Pensacola, Florida in 1956. This has been professionally cleaned and checked. It has not been cosmetically restored or polished. The case has wear and patina that collectors will appreciate in a watch of this nature. The movement has been fully serviced and has a new alloy mainspring. It runs very well and keeps good time. The case measures about 29mm without the crown. The chrome bezel rotates and locks down as it should. The movement is a Swiss made Wittnauer 10ESB and it has 17 jewels. The band is a vintage new old stock pigskin leather strap. The total length is about 8 5/8 inches. This uses a 16mm band if would like to order something different for this museum piece. The crystal is clean and clear. The dial is original, untouched, and is depicted accurately in the pictures.
