Description: This is a very nice Vietnam War M1 steel combat helmet with liner and early twill Mitchell camouflage cover that remains in excellent field used condition. The helmet shell is without dents or any type of damage. It is complete with both clip-on canvas chin straps and black finished T1 hook and claw closure fittings at the ends. The underside of the brim is with heat temper number ‘M 674. The camouflage cover is constructed of twill material with machine sewn reinforced slits for additional foliage and is with the distinctive Mitchell camouflage pattern. The underside is marked with ‘COVER, HELMET, CAMOUFLAGE” and ‘CONTRACT No. 8189, 8415-261-6833 dating it to early 1965. The cover is held tightly in place by an original issue elastic band around the lower part which was also used for holding additional camouflaged. It is lightly faded from exposure to the sun and monsoon rains. The liner is dated ‘67’ and with cross over webbing to hold the dark OD green web suspension system together. The date on the leather sweatband is illegible, however the band remains completely intact. The helmet is a very nice example of a mid-Vietnam War used piece that remains in overall excellent field used condition. 9072
