Considered one of the pioneers of the genre, Marley fused elements of reggae, ska, and rocksteady in his music and was renowned for his distinctive vocal and songwriting style. Marley's contribution to music increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide and made him a global figure in popular culture. Over the course of his career, he became known as a Rastafarian icon and he infused his music with a sense of spirituality. He is also considered a global symbol of Jamaican music, culture and identity and was controversial in his outspoken support for democratic social reforms. He supported the legalization of cannabis and advocated for Pan-Africanism. In 1976, Marley survived an assassination attempt in his home which was believed to be politically motivated. He succumbed to cancer in1981 at the age of 36. Face Pot is from a large Kevin Francis collection. Hand written notation on box reading "Bob Marley Art. Ed. #5 of 7 ". Excellent condition. No chips, cracks or crazing observed. Displays very well, as depicted. Drawing on 18th Century Netsuke design combined with the best of art pottery and the English toby jug tradition, they became an immediate success and introduced a whole new genre of pottery commemoratives. Designed by top ceramic sculptors, each Face Pot is handmade and hand-painted in Stoke-on-Trent, England and made to the same high standard as traditional Kevin Francis releases. Each Pot contains a quote from (or associated with) the character portrayed. A studio pottery approach resulted in limited production numbers of each Pot.
