Description: Incredibly rare 1905 first edition book. This field guide to wild fruits, enables the reader to identify a plant by their fruits when it may not be in flower. It comprises a comprehensive look at the wild and hedgerow fruiting plants of the United States. The author has ordered the contents by the color of the fruit so that the user may easily find what they are looking for. This is an essential guide to the budding botanist and anyone looking to identify wild plants when their flowers have past. Covers have a few scuffs, and blemishes, nothing too bad (see photos). The spine has a little wear on it 1/3 up the spine and a little shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spine (see photos). The binding could be a little tighter at the top but it's not bad. The top edges of the pages are gilded, while the side and bottom edges of the pages are free from foxing, tanning, and stains. Interior pages are in really good shape. Previous owner's name, street address (London), and used book store price are written in pencil on an intro page. Just a little tanning to some of the intro pages, but the book's interior pages are in great shape. The text and especially the illustrations jump off the pages (see photos). No underlining, no notations, etc. All in all it looks like and feels like a 120 year old book that has been frequently read and taken care of over its life.
