Both dust jacket and endpaper illustrations (and probably the color title page illustration) are by John Alan Maxwell. Special Edition for the members of the Peoples Book Club Hartzell Spence is famous both as the author of One Foot In Heaven, the basis of the movie by the same name, and as the founder of Yank magazine, which originated the use of the term "pin-up." In this novel, he presents the adventures of the Spanish explorer Don Francisco Orellana, who discovered the headwaters of the Amazon in 1541. "You will be enthralled by its adult story of high romance, danger, faith, base cruelty and lofty purpose" [from the dust jacket]. Book is in Near Fine Condition: pages bright, clean, tight, and unmarked. Corners slightly bumped. Dust Jacket is in Good Condition: most of the color illustration is intact; spine with two tiny pinholes and scrape in the middle; top edge of the spine creased and bottom edge with chipping; front section with two tiny chips and tiny scrape.
