Description: This lot contains a USS Macon dirigible cover (not flown) from April 20, 1934, as described below. The postmarks and cachets commemorate the passing of the USS Macon over various locations or Navy ships. As the USS Macon and USS Akron were military vessels, little, if any, mail was carried after the first few flights of the Akron in 1932 and four flights - two in 1933 and two in 1934 - by the Macon. This cover commemorates the 10th flight of the USS Macon from Moffett Field to Miami and the Caribbean. This flight left Moffett Field on April 20th and returned on May 18th. Cover included:4/20/1934 Lon Beach, CA, cancel with Julius Hulff cachet; this cover is not listed in Ullmann/Mellone's, but is similar to other April 20th cover by Hulff from different cities. The flap indicates this is cover #9 out of 9. The cover has an open flap with gum intact (not shown); it is addressed to the cachet-maker's Historic Aeronautics Association. Condition is as shown in the pics. The cover shows minimal toning and is in quite nice shape. Ullmann/Mellone's values similar April 20 Hulff covers at $125.00. I am listing a number of covers either flown or commemorating flights every week. I usually distribute the listings between numerous categories, so please check my other listings (other items). Shipping in the US is either by first class mail or by first class parcel, depending on value. Shipping and handling for this lot is $5.00. Shipping to Canada is $12.50 and to selected foreign destinations (see list) is $17.50. See my other items for additional Macon, Akron, Zeppelin, Catapult, first flight, Canadian first flight covers, and FDC's. Thanks! Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool.
