Description: ORNETTE COLEMAN The Shape of Jazz to Come. Used vintage LP in Near Mint/Near Mint condition. Atlantic Records Catalog # SD 1317; 1970s RE Condition: Other than radial streaks on LP (likely from my efforts to wipe dust away with a soft cloth), which don’t affect sound, this album is in superb condition. My research suggests this is most likely a late 1960s to mid-1970s reissue of this 1959 recording, though no reissue date is offered. I do not recall where I bought it but I was lucky to get such a beautiful item. The jacket is still crisp white non-glossy cardboard, reproduction of original essay by one Martin Williams on back totally legible; labels feature vintage Atlantic color scheme. Inner paper sleeve has my handwritten note for my own reference concerning application of analog noise reduction gear that died decades ago (!). Apparently my younger ears detected a lot of master tape hiss, but my now aged ears don’t hear any problems. The vinyl is quieter than the average mass produced LP. Behind the Music: The opening selection on this album, “Lonely Woman,” grabbed me from the first time I heard it an eon or two ago (yes, I have been on the scene a while!) and I still love it. This is followed by Eventually; Peace; Focus on Sanity; Congeniality; Chronology. All original Ornette compositions. PERSONNEL: Coleman—alto saxophone; Don Cherry—cornet; the venerable Charlie Haden—bass; and the venerable Billy Higgins—drums. This is deservedly considered a classic album. About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow. New items added weekly, check back often! PLEASE NOTE: I will not sell anything for less than $9.99, as it’s not worth packaging the item up and taking it to the Post Office. Sure, you can buy an LP for 50 cents or less at a yard sale, but will it have been cared for like mine? Not likely. FREE SHIPPING to U.S. address for purchase of any item of $100 or more.
