Description: These are two beautiful antique shallow porcelain bowls by Charles Ahrenfeldt from the late 1800’s, or possibly by 1910. They are decorated with sprigs of Dresden flowers and framed with a beautiful raised gold gilt scrollwork. They are really stunning! As are the flowers decorating them! The bowls are 6 & 1/2 inches in diameter and stand about 1 inch tall, and only weigh about 6 ounces each. I went down a rabbit hole trying to figure out this backstamp, with the CA, and Saxonia at the bottom. From what I can tell, Charles Ahrenfeldt bought porcelain and had decorating studios, but didn’t have porcelain factories himself (later his son did open a porcelain factory in Limoges after his death). There were apparently 3 places he obtained the porcelain that is reflected in the decorators backstamps - Limoges (France), Atrohlau (Austria) and Saxony (Germany). This backstamp, with SAXONIA, shows the porcelain was obtained from Saxony Germany. Sources on line show this particular backstamp was used between 1886 and 1910. This is very fine porcelain with lovely swirls. It is reminiscent of porcelain from Dresden, the famous porcelain manufacturing center in Saxony. There is a good chance that the origin of these porcelain bowls is Dresden, although there are no factory stamps under the glaze to say definitively. These bowls are so lovely, with sprigs of flowers in the Dresden style decorating them, and amazing raised gold scrollwork decorating the outer edges. They are in excellent antique shape, with no chips, cracks, crazing or stains. I would say new, but I cannot call pieces over 100 years old, new! I see minimal to no marks on the glaze at an angle to the light. These have probably only been displayed and really taken care of by a lover of fine porcelain over the years! They would look amazing displayed in a cabinet, or displayed on a wall. Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree view for a closer look. I pack with lots of bubble wrap for safe shipping and ship out quickly, sometimes same day, always by next business day, and sometimes on Saturdays if I can make it to the post office before they close at noon. Any questions, please ask, and thanks for looking!!
