Overall length: 270.8 meters Overall width: 39.7 meters Waterline width: 32.2 meters Normal displacement: 41,187 tons Fully loaded displacement: 43,054 tons The USS Lexington was originally designed as a battlecruiser and was assigned the number "CC-1" , on July 1, 1922, it was decided to convert it into an aircraft carrier before completion. It entered service with the U.S. Navy on December 14, 1927. On December 7, 1941, the USS Lexington, based at Pearl Harbor, received news that her home port had been attacked. She immediately dispatched reconnaissance planes to search for the Japanese fleet. On May 7, 1942, the Lexington's carrier-based aircraft sank the Japanese light aircraft carrier Shoho. On the second day, she withstood attacks from 2 torpedoes and 3 bombs, and finally capsized. The Lexington received two battle stars during its service in World War II.
