The WASHINGTON MONUMENT marble stone piece, Washington D.C.

Description: Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter ITEM: Here is an approximately 6" x 8" (5 3/4" x 7 3/4") glossy papers, ready for framing, (no deep frame or shadow box included) that each comes printed as shown along with a tiny piece of the Washington Monument that comes adhered to the glossy paper. The tiny piece has been cut from a large piece removed from the monument in 1958, that we have. Due to the nearly 560 ft. height of the structure, aircraft warning lights were needed by the mid 20th century caused by the increase in commercial air traffic, and close proximity of Reagan National Airport. 8 lights were added in 1958, 2 on each of the 4 sides. Holes were needed to be made to the structure for the placement of these lights. 8 holes were made by drilling into 8 circular templates drawn out on the top of the monument all with a split down the middle making a total of 16 half circles. The end product was 8 whole circular openings on the monument with rough edges that were then finished smooth by chiseling, grinding and sanding. We have obtained one of those 16 half circular pieces, along with documentation from a member of the Seal family whom was the electrical contractor who removed the piece! Each tiny piece on the paper display varies slightly! The documents shown above are not a part of this sale. It comes with an 8 1/2" x 11" plain paper Certificate of Authenticity from us, The Zone!
