They moved several times, & they occupied offices on Astor Place in Lower Manhattan from about 1879/1880 to 1882. Lovell specialized in reprint editions of popular works produced for a budget conscious audience. Hardcover. Dark, brick red cloth stamped in black & gold illustrations & titles to front & spine. 656 pp. 5-3/8" x 7-5/8".Four illustrations (frontispiece w/tissue guard & 3 full-page illustrations). Very good condition. Mild foxing & occasional smudging & soiling to page margins; heavier foxing to first few & last few pages. Otherwise, interior clean & unmarked. Wear & chipping to edges of front & rear end papers; a few, small, scattered edge tears to pages. A 1-inch chip along bottom edge of p. 179/180 (does not affect text). Mild foxing to edges of page block. Interior hinges lightly cracked & a bit tender, but binding remains firm; spine square. Covers have wear & a bit of fraying to spine ends, with a few small tears to fabric & a bit of fabric loss at head of spine. Light wear to corners & along edges, with boards exposed a bit at bottom corners; several spots to rear board. An attractive, antique copy of one of Jules Verne's most beloved titles. Uncommon in this condition. A nice addition to your collection or as a gift. Ships well-packed in a box.
