After rejecting other artists' poster concepts, George Lucas/20th Century Fox commissioned Greg & Tim Hildebrandt to create a promotional piece. Working on a tight deadline, it took the famed artists 36 hours to create the now famous image of Luke and Leia. The reason the figures in the poster don't resemble the actors from the film is because the artists never viewed photographs of the cast members when it was created. According to one fan website, the original image did not include the droids. George Lucas requested that the artists put them into the work, and enlarge their signature name. The image appeared on movie posters throughout Europe and on merchandise in the U.S. Greg and Tim Hildebrandt are twin brothers. Tim died in 2006. Greg is 85 years old.
