Description: This is a fantastic antique SPEAKING DOG Mechanical BANK from 1885 (137 years old!). This is a genuine bank from 1885 and not a reproduction. It measures 7.5 inches long by 3 inches wide and 6.75 inches tall. It works as one would expect if you were that old. To operate, place a coin on the girl's tray and press the lever down in front of the dog. The girl's arm moves backwards and tilts, the dog's mouth opens and the coin falls from the tray and is deposited into the bank. The tail wags by slightly tapping it. There is no hatch on the bottom. The patent information is marked on the bottom of the bank. From "Penny Lane", the J&E Stevens bank has a round tray while the Shepard Hardware version has a square tray. The bank is based on USPN 328,723 issued to Charles G. Shepard and Peter Adams Jr. on October 20, 1885. BEFORE PURCHASING - PLEASE ask any question that you may have, especially if there is a something that you consider important. This wonderful 137 year old bank may have issues, such as normal wear & tear, scratches and other noticeable issues from all the photographs. Please take time to look at all the photographs. I shot some photographs with a flash and some without so you can see the colors. This piece is sold AS IS, and all photographs are included as part of this description.
