This is 100% GUARANTEED decorative item by the famous Zlatoust Factory of Engraving on Steel, not a Chinese fake or a replica! In steel, lacquers, gilt with some content of real gold. Two small holes at the top of the artwork can be used for hanging the art on the wall. The reverse surface is covered with a protective layer to prevent corrosion and features two ink stamps, one with the name of the factory and the other the QC stamp. The item is in very condition. The only noticeable damage is the scratch at the top right-hand corner. When looking against a strong light, a few minuscule rust spots become visible, mostly along the edges. They are absolutely lost in the very busy artwork and are not really detractive. The protective layer on the reverse surface shows some wear where it has chipped off to reveal the brown primer underneath. However, it does not reach the steel. If desired, this can be quickly and easily restored to its original state. Zlatoust is a small city in Chelyabinsk Region near the southern end of the Ural Mountain range. Its steelworks are world-famous not only among art collectors but, first and foremost, for its famous edged weapons. The phrase “Zlatoust steel” is firmly associated with “blades of the highest quality”. And artistic beauty of engraving on them, we must add. Its tradition goes back to 1754 when the Russian Emperor ordered to build a metalwork factory on the banks of the river Ay. In 1815, two master engravers from the Solingen metalworks in Germany were invited to organize production and three years later the results, 19 blades of excellent quality and beauty, were presented to a very satisfied Emperor. This wall art is a fine example of the tradition of excellence and artistic taste still very much alive among the Zlatoust master engravers.
