Description: Vintage Sony Surround receiver from the 90s. Model GX900ES. ES stands for elevated standard and was used on Sonys top series back then. This is a Dolby Pro-Logic surround receiver that came out before DVDs. It even has a laserdisc input. There are no digital or HDMI inputs, These did not exist yet. Instead the receiver could extract a center channel and single surround channel from a properly encoded Dolby Pro-Logic analog signal. Since Dolby Pro-Logic isn't used anymore (almost all movies have discrete surround tracks) there is very little use for the surround channels. In fact I always just used this as a stereo receiver in a 2 channel system consisting of a TV with analog outputs and a DVD player. It always worked great and sounded very good. I just pushed the Direct Pass button which bypasses all surround processing and used it as a stereo receiver. It sounds very good and has a good FM tuner which gets a lot of stations in my rural area. There are various other surround modes but I have never tried the surround channels. I always just used it as a stereo receiver. I'm only selling it because my new TV does not have an analog audio out so I had to put a newer receiver in that system. If you just need a stereo receiver with a good tuner at a good price consider this. It comes with the remote. It is in good shape with some scratches on top (see pictures) and works well.
