The covers with stamps honoring this currency were postmarked in the Solomon Islands with a special first day of issue -dated October 24, 1977, the day the Solomon Islands attained independence. The stamps beer, the Royal Queen Elizabeth II and carry the inscription first currency issue. The sterling silver five dollar coin depicts a bokolo-a highly valued logic made from the fossilized clam shells from Villa Lavella Island. The other coins are copper nickel proof.
