Description: This is a lot of three vintage Sinclair Lewis Signet Classic paperbacks, all published by The New American Library. The three books are: (1) ARROWSMITH, by Sinclair Lewis, with an Afterword by Mark Schorer. Copyright 1925 by Harcourt, Brace & World, Inc. Afterword copyright 1961. “Tenth Printing.” 438 pages. This paperback book is in Good condition with a square, tight, spine, and clean, unmarked pages (which are slightly discolored from age). Flaws consist of (1) minor wear and chipping at the spine ends and along the edges of the front and rear covers; (2) a diagonal crease (3” x 1”) at the bottom right corner of the front cover; (3) notable chipping at the far edge of the front cover, especially near the bottom right corner; and (4) significant discoloration to the inside front and rear covers. (2) MAIN STREET, by Sinclair Lewis, with an Afterword by Mark Schorer. Copyright 1925 by Harcourt, Brace & World, Inc. Afterword copyright 1961. “Eighth Printing.” 439 pages. This book is in Good-to-Very-Good condition with a square, tight, spine, and clean, unmarked pages. Flaws consist of (1) slight wear and rubbing along the edges of the front and rear covers; (2) a (faint) vertical crease running the length of the front cover; (3) small diagonal creases to the top right corner of the front cover and the top left corner of the rear cover; (4) a small (1/4”) closed tear at the bottom center of the front cover; (4) small (roughly 1/2”) creases at the far edges of the first several pages (from the front end-page through page 10); and (5) a previous owner’s name written in blue ink at the top left corner of the inside front cover. (3) BABBITT by Sinclair Lewis, with an Afterword by Mark Schorer. Copyright 1922 by Harcourt, Brace & World, Inc. Afterword copyright 1961. “Eleventh Printing.” 327 pages. This book is in Good (or maybe Good-minus) condition with tight (but slightly-cocked) spine, and, with one exception, clean, unmarked pages. Flaws consist of (1) moderate wear and rubbing at the spine ends and along the edges of the front and rear covers; (2) two (faint) vertical creases along the rear cover; (3) several diagonal creases to the bottom right corner of the front cover; (4) a previous owner’s name on the top right corner of the front end-page; (5) a few doodles in blue ink on the rear cover; and (6) a single word (“culture”?) written in blue ink at the bottom of page 327 (the final page of the afterword). The book has no loose, torn, creased, or missing pages, and, apart from the exceptions noted above — in points 4, 5, and 6 — there is no writing, marking, or underlining anywhere in the book.
