Description: Important: Please select quantity before ordering (16 or 32 oz) Shredded, decomposed hardwood. (The substrate itself is soft & mushy, but it originally comes from hardwood trees. It's important to use hardwood/ deciduous as opposed to softwood/ conifers because softwoods contain harmful resins.) Perfect for rearing beetle larvae, millipedes, and isopods (that's what I use it for) and probably useful for lots of other things as well. I soak the wood thoroughly in boiling water and then bake it in the oven to ensure that no fungi or other hitchhikers survive. If desired, I'll throw in some springtails (tropical pink) free-of-charge to help keep to soil fresh and clean. Also please note that the wood is measured by volume and not weight, in order to ensure consistency.
