Description: Welcome to our eBay picks atLONG LOST Co This is a 5 Day NO RESERVE AUCTION that will end on WEDNESDAY, 10/9/24 Here’s a nice pick! This SET of 6 Antique 3-TINE STEEL FORKS are about 200 YEARS OLD, dating to the LATE 18th or EARLY 19th CENTURY. They are about 7+/-” long. I believe they have EBONY HANDLES and possibly silver pommels and collars (white colored metal with traces of black tarnish, if I can get one of them tested without damaging it before the sale ends, I’ll post the result). These forks were very well made and small differences and variations demonstrate the hand forging, fitting and fine craftsmanship. Perhaps owned by a prosperous merchant or some other proper gentleman. They are unmarked, the maker is unknown to me. They could be American made, but more likely they were made in England and brought (or for export) to America. They’re in GREAT ANTIQUE CONDITION. Most prominently, the wood handles have seasoned over the years and a lengthwise crack has appeared on all but one. These checks are on the backsides of four of them and on the frontside of one. The fork without the long check does have a much smaller, fine crack on one side. They all have a very nice patina, including some small spots of aged light rust here and there and between the tines. The steel surfaces are very finely etched. The white metal bolsters and collars are dull with areas of black tarnish as mentioned. Apart from the age related conditions, they are undamaged, complete and in an as-found state. Beyond impulsively poking around with my fingernail :) I have made no attempt to clean or restore them.
