Description: SEQUOIA STUMP c1880s Stereoview DANCE GAZEBO CALAVERAS BIG TREE GROVE California Click images to enlarge Description sepia-toned stereoview published by American Scenery, circa 1880s ~ this is hand-captioned in pencil underneath the Yosemite photo listings on the reverse side as "Stump of Big Tree" ~ however, this is NOT a Yosemite scene, but rather shows the Dance Hall gazebo at the Calaveras Big Tree Grove - four miles west of Arnold, California ~ note the person standing at right beneath the stump (for size) ~ this gazebo was constructed above a flat-planed Sequoia stump; the flat stump allowed dancing inside the gazebo! ~ I believe the gazebo was no longer in existence by the late 1890s [mount measures approx. 7" x 4"] ~ in GOOD PLUS condition, with noticeable stains on both sides of the mount; scuff marks across both images; rumpled right lower corner Please see the condition note above, and please super-size the scans with this listing.
