Description: ◉ SASUKE "サスケ" Masahisa Fukase Photo book (Language: Japanese) New JPN Photographer Masahisa Fukase has loved cats throughout his life. This book is the definitive collection of photos of Sasuke, the protagonist of Fukase's cat photography, and his sister Momoe. This book, newly created from the selection of photos to the editing, transcends the genre of cat photography and positions "Sasuke" as the core of Fukase's work.It also elucidates the various photographic expressions he explored through "Sasuke" - pure experience gained from the indistinguishability of subject and object, and perception that combines sight and touch. This photo book is an important perspective on the world of Masahisa Fukase's work.At the end of the book, there is a text by Tomo Kosuga, founder and director of the Masahisa Fukase Archives, entitled "A Pure Experience Called Love." [Masahisa Fukase]Born in Bifuka-cho, Nakagawa-gun, Hokkaido in 1934. Graduated from the Department of Photography, College of Art, Nihon University. After working at Nippon Design Center and Kawade Shobo Shinsha, he went independent in 1968. Starting with his participation in the historic exhibition of Japanese photography "New Japanese Photography" held at MoMA in the United States in 1974, he has since exhibited at numerous exhibitions around the world. In 1992, he suffered brain damage in an accident, and after 20 years of battling the illness, he passed away in 2012 at the age of 78. His representative work "Raven" is highly regarded worldwide as a monumental work in Japanese photography. Thanks to the efforts of the Masahisa Fukase Archives, which were established after his death, the first major posthumous retrospective exhibition "l'incurable égoïste" was held at the Arles International Photography Festival in France in 2017. In 2018, the first retrospective exhibition in Japan, "Play", was held at KYOTOGRAPHIE in Kyoto. In the same year, the first museum retrospective exhibition, "Private Scenes", was held at Foam in the Netherlands. To coincide with the event, a photo book titled "Masahisa Fukase" has been published (Japanese version published by Akaaka Art Publishing, English and French versions published by Editions Xavier Barral), which compiles the works that Fukase created throughout his life.
