Description: Sabal palmetto 'Lisa' was actually discovered decades ago in the mid-1970s in South-Central FL on the banks of Arbuckle Creek, but the original discoverer didn't find any seeds. Then in 1998, it was rediscovered in SW Florida. The name 'Lisa' is named after the discoverer's wife. It since has slowly made its way into cultivation, although is still quite rare. 'Lisa' is a natural mutation, easily identified by having fused leaflets (like a juvenile palm would have) and very stiff leaves. The mutation is only passed along to a percentage of the offspring. This percentage has been reported as being around 67%, but reports from growers seem to vary widely. It may take several years before you can distinguish a palm as having 'Lisa' traits. Leaves will seem quite stiff, and have a distinctive "cupping" characteristic. 'Lisa' seems otherwise to be just as cold-hardy as Sabal palmetto (probably zone 8a, although maybe into zone 7 WITH PROTECTION). It's a long-lived palm, able to withstand drought, flooding, strong winds, freezes, and extreme heat. This is the first time that I have been able to offer these seeds, and I don't know if I will be able to in the future. The palm that I collected seeds from is the one in the first two pictures. The other four pictures are various other Sabal 'Lisa' palms. Germination of Sabal seeds is best when you apply some bottom heat, although some find success just planting them in pots and leaving them outside in the summer. Germination can be sporadic, and can take as little as less then two weeks, or possibly several months. If what you’re doing isn’t working, don’t give up on them. Try something different! Good luck, and thanks for looking! International buyers, please know that import charges may apply in your country! You are responsible for any and all of these charges. Also, please be informed of any import regulations in your country! Once the package leaves my hands to the post office, I am not responsible for it being held up in your customs/import authority. Returns are not accepted, unless the seeds are damaged in shipment. These seeds are very fresh.
