Description: Estate find. Set of 5 nesting “dolls”. The largest one is almost 7 inches tall. They are all handpainted with oil paint, lacquer, on Linden wood. Very pretty horses! This set would make a wonderful Christmas or Hanukkah present, and if you gave them as a gift not in the nesting position, you could put little trinkets inside four of them. You could put pieces of jewelry or candy or little horse treats, if your loved one has a real horse. The smallest one is shown in the palm of my hand. That one is solid. It is not one that unscrews and opens. These nesting dolls are part of the Russian “culture first made in 1892 and made just about the same way ever since! Some sets are larger with the tallest being almost 12 inches high and you might see 10 or 12, this set is only a set of five pieces. There aren’t any missing. It was made to be a set of five and a very pretty set. too!! Please look at all of the pictures and there’s also a picture of some of the history of these Matryoshka dolls. I did see something online that showed that they might be made in the Ukraine, but I don’t have any verification of that. It’s a beautiful set.
