Description: ROYAL COPENHAGEN l937 Christmas Plate Christmas Shopping on Strøget is the subject of the 1937 Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate. It features a view of the Christmas Shoppers loaded down with packages, crowding the Strøget, the main shopping street in downtown Copenhagen. Overhead Christmas decorations prominently feature the Christmas Star, found on most Royal Copenhagen Christmas plates. The inscription includes the date 19337 and the word JUL -- the Danish word for CHRISTMAS (pronounced like the English work YULE). The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze. Diameter just over 7 inches. Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the three wavy line trademark of Royal Copenhagen. Artwork by Niels Thorsson, a collectable artist in his own right. Book Value (2004) was $300 to $350.
