The second in the lineage of the President line, the 18038 features an upgraded, single quickset movement and sapphire crystal. The beautiful Day-Date before you here has a stunning factory black dial with aftermarket, jeweler-set diamond indices. The diamonds add a gorgeous radiance in the light and could be factory, but I always I air on the side of underpromise, overdeliver. The dial is framed by a sleek, solid gold smooth bezel, giving the modern look of more contemporary Day-Dates . The hands are in wonderful condition with full lume intact. The movement is tight, winds and runs nicely, with complications crisply cycling as you would expect on a fine Swiss watch. What really sets this President apart is the case condition. The lugs are thick and robust, showing no signs of heavy polishing. There are light scratches from wear and a dent on each side of the case flanks. It is rare to find an 18038 case with lugs this sharp, having survived 40+ years with minimal polishing. No Day-Date is complete without the “I know that watch from 100 yards way” 18k solid gold, 3-link President-style bracelet, fit with the hidden clasp for a uniform, clean look throughout. The bracelet is a factory, OEM Rolex 18k gold bracelet with 55 end links and shows wear and stretch commensurate for its age (see photos). The bracelet fits up to a 7 1/8” wrist, which accommodates most wrists (note, if you have a larger wrist, I have additional links for sale upon request) The beauty of the Rolex 18038 is that it is fitted with a Calibre 3055 perpetual movement; the heartbeat of the watch. A fifth-generation Day-Date movement, the calibre 3055 includes many modern luxuries, such as 28,800 bph and the addition of a Quickset function. The Quickset function allows the wearer to adjust the date aperture on the dial with a quick twist of the crown (this particular movement completes its cycle at 3am). Older, non-Quickset movements require the crown to be wound a full 24 hours to change the date. All in all, a wonderful Rolex President with absolutely amazing case condition.
