Description: This is a signed letter by Read Lewis (1887-1984), who at the time was Chairman of the American Council for Nationalities Service. In the years 1917 and 1918, Read Lewis had been a representative in Russia of the Committee on Public Information, an independent agency of the United States government which was designed to promote the idea of American involvement in World War I. Lewis headed the Common Council for American Unity during World War II. Lewis was often considered to be something of a communist "fellow traveler". This letter is written on the stationery of the American Council for Nationalities Service, with Read Lewis's name and position printed near the top left corner. This letter is dated March 18, 1968, and is in very good condition. The letter is enclosed in a clear plastic sleeve, for protection.
