Description: The rare Japanese variegated Iris, also known as Iris ensata ‘Variegata’, Japanese flag, or ‘silverband’ Iris, has won an award from the Royal Horticultural Society. This stunning variegated Iris is a perennial that stands out with its beautiful dark purple flowers and tri-color foliage, consisting of green, yellow, and white. It's easy to grow and thrives best in full sun to partial shade, in humus-rich, medium to wet, acidic soils. This Iris loves moisture-retentive soils and does well in standing water, especially during the growing season. However, it doesn't tolerate standing water and boggy soils in winter. You may consider growing it in pots submerged in water during the growing season, and then moving them to drier ground in fall and winter. It can thrive in ordinary garden soils or perennial borders as long as it receives sufficient moisture during the growing season, making it a great addition to water gardens, Zen gardens, Japanese gardens, cottage gardens, and along pools or streams. Additionally, it's deer-resistant, fresh, and saltwater tolerant, making it suitable for coastal gardens as well. I will send you well-rooted Variegated Iris plants (rhizomes) similar to the photo shown, with little or no soil. and carefully trimmed leaves to ensure they fit perfectly in the box. Please plant them as soon as possible after arrival. To plant, dig shallow holes 10" across and 2-4" deep, and make a ridge of soil down the middle of each hole, dividing it in half. Plant your rhizomes on the ridge approximately 2 inches deep, and water thoroughly. We recommend adding a 1-2 inch layer of mulch to help conserve moisture and reduce weeds.Hardness Zones: 4-9 Plant once, enjoy years! Carolina Lavender Farm
