Description: RARE Schlumbergera Buckleyi Old Fashion Christmas Cactus This is NOT the common Christmas Schlumbergera Zygocactus or Truncata Cactus everyone is selling and you can find at the local nursery. This is Schlumbergera buckleyi. See comparison photo above. Some History of our Mother Plant: This plant was over 30 years old when my Great Aunt moved in with my Grandmother in 1956. My mother keep it for over 20 years before entrusting it’s safe keeping with me in 1990. This Mother plant is around 100 years old. Until now this plants cuttings were only offered to our family and friends to start their own Christmas Cactus Family Tradition. We are now making it possible for you to start your own Family Tradition. We are offering Rooted growing starter plants from this 100 year old Mother Cactus. Why buy cutting you have to root yourself? We have a limited amount of plants to sell as the mother plant is starting to bloom and we will not be able to take more until spring. The plants are around 4 to 6 inches high and will be removed from the planters and sent bare rooted, carefully packed in moist paper towels and ready for you to plant in your own container. Plant will be similar to the one pictured. To be clear, you are buying a rooted and growing starter plant of our choice (similar to last photo above) NOT the mother plant. If you are in a Cold part of the country and the plant will be in a sitting in your mail box for hours, please do not order at this time. We can’t be held responsible for plants left in the freezing cold. Ebay does send delivery emails when items have been delivered. Full care and planting instructions will be included. Noteworthy Characteristics: Schlumbergera × buckleyi, commonly called Christmas cactus, is a hybrid, flat-stemmed, frost-intolerant, winter-flowering, epiphytic perennial cactus that is typically grown indoors as a container plant for enjoyment of its colorful flowers which bloom during and after the Christmas season. Flat, jointed, leafless, green stem segments (phylloclades) sprawl downward over the container edges in pendant chains. Each stem segment (to 2 1/2” long and 3/4” wide) has rounded marginal notches. Bright magenta red to pink flowers (to 3” long) are borne at the stem ends during the period of December to February. Genus name honors Frederick Schlumberger, Belgian horticulturist. Specific epithet honors William Buckley who created this hybrid at the Rollisson Nurseries in England around 1850 by crossing two southeastern Brazilian species (S. truncate and S. russelliana).
