Please take a look at my other merchandise at your leisure.You are bidding on: Rare In-Store TV Dealer Advertising GE Aluminized Picture Tube featuring NBC's Today Show Host Dave Garroway & Muggs the Chimpanzee ~ c1953-1957 ~ Rare television dealers hand-held store advertisement for GE Electronic Tubes / Aluminized Picture Tubes. The thick cardboard graphic of a television has a clear plastic sliding insert showing differences between a regular picture screen and one using GE's aluminized picture tube. The piece is in beautiful condition as it's been stored inside its original mailing envelope. The envelope shows some wear as seen. The picture on the tube shows NBC's Dave Garroway and "co-host" Muggs the chimpanzee. The Today Show premiered on January 14, 1952 with bowtie-wearing host Dave Garroway. Back then, television audiences weren’t used to the format ~ which was a presentation of major national headlines interspersed with "lifestyle features, other light news and gimmicks." J. Fred Muggs was a regular featured player on the show in its earlier days, and kept his job for several years despite a 1954 incident when he bit one of the show's stand-ins.
