Description: Extremely rare antique 1870's Currier & Ives original lithographic print titled "San Francisco 1857." Can't find another like it! This print has the address 125 Nassau Street, NY which makes the date of production 1872-1874. Print size measures 12" W x 8.75" H. Approx 13" x 9.5" including the frame. Condition: Incredible antique print with obvious aging to the surface (you can see the contrast to the very edges of the print that were under the frame edge). A couple minor areas of surface wear (center above sky in 3 tiny dots, small lower right area -- shown close-up in photos). The frame is old with some finish wear on the edges (note largest area on bottom of frame (also detailed in photos). Please let your expertise guide you. Antique prints are not my specialty, but all indications are this is an authentically original antique hand-tinted lithograph print. I have not removed the backing board of the frame. Image Research: I could not find a single other example of this image printed by Currier & Ives, and just a couple rare examples of this image as an antique map printed in 1857 (Published by Henry Bill for his "History of the World"). The artist is C.C. Kuchel (1820-1865), who emigrated to America from Switzerland in the 1840's, moving to San Francisco around the time of this image setting. He formed a lithography firm with Emil Dresel. The image features a panoramic view of SF during the Gold Rush - taken from a high point on the south side. The scene shows Yerba Buena harbor from Rincon point, looking towards Telegraph Hill. Shows the town built in the valley and the harbor bustling with ships.
