The Tudor rose motif originated after Henry VII ascended the English throne. Henry’s reign ended the so-called ‘War of the Roses’ between the House of Lancaster and the House of York, and the rose became a symbol of peace. Later when James VI of Scotland controlled the English throne, the thistle was integrated into the royal badge. To this day the Tudor Rose and Thistle represents both English and Scottish heritage.
