Description: Quenstedtoceras sp. Jurassic Volga River, Ulyanovsk, Russia 1.72 x 1.48 x 0.34 inches (4.36 x 3.76 x 0.86 cm) Iron Pyrite, known as Fool’s Gold, can be an agent of mineralization replacement. From the Volga River in Russia, this Jurassic Ammonite was sliced in half to reveal the “pyritized” internal chambers with artistic suture patterns. The ancient seashell is now partially metallic, with golden Pyrite crystals filling part of the inner chambers. The impressive fossil has some preserved shell matter on the exterior that has been stabilized for longevity. This is a fantastic fossil find.
