Description: This 22.5" long Native American Plains War Club is ca. 1880's and has a hardwood shaft covered by wound rawhide. The wood shaft is split such that the shaft wraps around a groove in the pyrite hard stone club. Then rawhide attaches the head to the shaft. The club is intact but just a tad loose. In other words it's solid but has an 1/8" wobble. There is damage to some of the rawhide, but again the rawhide strips are attached and intact. One of the nails was a bit loose so I pulled it and it was a square nail indicating pre-1890's construction. The head is 2.75" diameter x 2.75" long. The shaft is 3/4" diameter over the rawhide. Since it is pyrite, you'd expect to see evidence of 'fools gold'. I've attached one photo that shows the pin prick glint of 'fools gold' glitter throughout the exposed faces. This is an excellent example of a Plains Club. It's the first I've seen with pyrite.
