Description: PRICE REDUCED 10% 2.15.2024: HIBBARD SPENCER BARTLETT Vintage 2-blade Jacknife: A pioneer in the mail order business, HSB started out as ea hardware manufacturer and wholesaler, manufacturing their own products, including knives. They started jobbing-out pocketknives probably in the 20th century to quality cutlers such as Utica and Camillus. Another trade name they used for their knives was OVB (Our Very Best). This knife was a "working" model, a plain jacknife which sold thousands. It's not rare, it's not classic, but it's old. HSB closed its Chicago headquarters in the early 1960s.Both blades have been sharpened to about 70% of their original width, and poorly at that: lots of scratches from sharpening stones and files. They did try to do right; the scratches are not deep and the blades polished up presentably. The main blade has been reground at the tip, probably to repair a broken end. Handles have no chips or cracks and even shine pretty good. Badge on front shows that the owner(s) carried lots of pocket change. Brass frame and nickel steel bolsters and pins are solid, square and even. Springs are intact and give main blade pretty good walk & talk; pen blade operates smoothly and stays in position but no W&T. Value points are for good appearance and function for its age (could be pre-WWII to 1960). Maybe a nice gift for Opa or Abuela. Mailing only to USA-48. Postage is usually between $5.00 and $6.26.
