I had had a Gaiam Sol for five years until the top was peeling off and dyeing my skin purple because I loved it so much. I typically practice vinyasa or strong hatha with some yin, and I tend to have clammy hands and feet, so a grippy mat is really important to my practice. As I'm on a budget and wanted to make a smart choice, I consulted with trusted yogi friends, and everyone recommended the classic Manduka Lite. I found it to be both painfully expensive and dangerously slippy (and I don't really like using towels, too much laundry and gross). After some research, I came across cork mats, and further research set this mat apart because of its light weight and reasonable price point. I travel a lot, and mat weight makes a big difference.I've been using the mat daily for a month now, and I am thrilled with it! The grip is really lush, comfortable on the whole spectrum, from feet with socks on to dripping sweat hot vinyasa practices. It holds my hands and feet in place without bunching when I pivot or slide intentionally, like some super sticky or light mats do. The more you sweat, the more it grips, so it warms up with me and fits my practice. When I'm in socks and sweats doing yin, I don't feel like I'm sticking weirdly. The pattern on the top is super groovy and useful for alignment. And this mat is SO LIGHT WEIGHT it's crazy! I'm in love! The backing is like a strong but soft foam. There is a little bit of stretchy give in the foam, but I've been practicing mainly on carpet, and I'm sure that's a factor there as well. There is no odor at all. I'm starting to notice very faint marks where my hands and feet go, but with daily practice, that's normal. At this price, and because it's so eco-friendly, I'd be OK with replacing the mat every handful of years. The only con I've come across so far is that it took a few weeks of laying flat on my floor to lose the curled ends from storage (it's totally fine now, 4 weeks later). I don't transport the mat frequently these days (quarantine lol), so I don't know if this will be an issue when the mat spends more time rolled. Overall, awesome mat, great value for the price for someone who practices regularly. I'd recommend it to anyone, regardless of the style of yoga they practice. I'd even recommend it to non-yogis as an exercise mat because of it's softness, lightness, and responsive grip.
