Pinarello Montello Road Frameset 55cm

Description: From The Vintage Vault at Golden Velo comes this Pinarello Montello road frameset. This frameset was an icon of Italian racing bikes. SLX tubing was Columbus's most high end offering at the time. The paint color is very unique, could be a respray or a red that has aged very nicely. Old Pinarello frames were not clear coated, because of this the decals and paint are usually very faded. The blue decals did not appear in any of the Pinarello catalog photos, which makes me lean towards this being a respray. I have attached photos from a 1985 and 1989 catalog that show all of the matching design elements. Serial number is OO506. HistoryGiovanni Pinarello came of age in the golden era of Italian cycling. At age 15 he began working at the Paglianti bicylce factory. In 1947 he began racing professionally, while he enjoyed some success in racing his destiny would lead him elsewhere. He was the last rider to "win" the Maglia Nera (black jersey, aka last place) at the Giro d'Italia in 1951. His team ended his contract after that but gave him a generous severance, which he invested wisely by starting his own shop. From there, Pinarello would go on to become an icon of grand tour racing.
