Description: Rare early original vintage stereoview photograph shows an oxen team hauling huge logs through the town of North Bloomfield, Nevada County California. Faded caption on back reads. “BLOOMFIELD, CA.”. Settled in 1852 as a mining town of the California Gold Rush, it was originally named Humbug after the creek of the same name. As the settlement grew, it was renamed Humbug City, and then the more dignified Bloomfield. The settlement thrived during Malakoff Diggins mining days. When a post office was established on June 1, 1857, residents selected the current name to differentiate the town from Bloomfield, California. Stereoview photograph measures 4 x 7 inches and is in very good condition with light spotting in sky area and light corner wear(see scans). There are no bends, tears, or creases and the images are very sharp and have strong tones with good contrast and clarity. Please email with any questions and please "VIEW SELLERS OTHER ITEMS".
