Description: NGC ( VF ) Carinus AD 283 -285 Aurelianianus / Antoninianus Carinus was born in AD 250. He was first made Caesar in AD 282 a year later co-emperor by his father, the emperor Carus (r. AD 282-283 ). Carinus embarassed his father by taking and divorcing 9 wives and seducing the wives of Roman officials as well as great hedonism and extravagance. He was killed along with his father and brother Numerian at the Battle of Margus River against the future emperor Diocletian. After his death, Carinus’ memory was officially condemned in the Roman manner known as Damnatio Memoriae. His name was ordered to be erased from all public inscriptions.
